Toddler Activity: “Washing Dishes”

The other day, Simon was concerned about the fact that he got his cup all dirty when he was eating. So, I removed the sink basin from his play kitchen, filled it with some cold water, and grabbed an assortment of dishes that are waterproof and unbreakable, as well as a clean baby washcloth, and set him up on a towel to “wash” his dishes. (A lot of his toy dishes are wooden, and those shouldn’t get wet.)

What could be better than playing with cold water when you are a toddler stuck inside on a hot Summer day? The fact that he was role-playing the doing of chores and a domestic task that he will someday have to perform is an added learning bonus. He loved this, and had a lot of fun.

My kids love doing this too!
Aw, this is so cute! I admit that I’m only *now* letting my kiddo wash dishes. He’s tall enough now to stand on a step and help me wash and especially dry and put them on the drying rack. It’s great to get them started early while they still get such a kick out of it!
Absolutely!
