It did not feel at all like January today. Simon and I had to run an errand, and I dressed us in warm sweaters and scarves for the car ride. We walked out the door and felt the warm sun on us, then stepped onto the muddy ground, and I wondered if Spring had arrived early. Once we were in the car with the trapped heat it was too hot, and I tossed my scarf into the passenger’s seat.
My poor child has been so cooped up inside the house these last couple of weeks. First, by gusty winds, rainy days, and below freezing temperatures, and then by having his Mumma sick for a week. I knew it would be a waste not to seize this day and give him a chance to be out in the fresh air. So, as soon as we returned home, I changed him into his waterproof rain boots, and let him loose in the mud.
He had so much fun digging with trucks, throwing balls of the remaining snow, splashing in puddles, and dipping his hands into the cold water. I enjoyed breathing the outside air and standing in the sun to soak up the vitamin D. We finally came inside when he sat down in a wet puddle, and got his pants soaked. I brought him in and gave him a shower, followed by a nap.
Sadly, the cold temperatures will return overnight, but we will still try to get out when we can, just in a more bundled fashion. I am glad we were at least able to enjoy this short break from winter.
